The House on the Strand is one of my favorite Daphne du Maurier books. I have read it over and over again for the past 20 years. It has a strange and wonderful tale. Imagine what it would be like to look around you and see what the world looked like years before, as if you were a silent, invisible visitor to another time. Wonderful book!/5(). The House on the Strand is a less-known book by Daphne DuMaurier, the woman who gave us Rebecca and Jamaica Inn. Here she interweaves past and present together in a novel that is just as rich as anything she has ever written. Jeff Strand is good. Real good. If you haven't read/listened to him, then you are missing out. Sick house is a good and enjoyable story. Not my favorite of Mr. Strands, but he has set the bar pretty high for himself which may have hurt him here a little bit. A good Strand is still head and shoulders above most. ***'Every book Daphne du Maurier writes is a best-seller, but the most popular are the novels with a Cornish setting - Frenchman's Creek, Jamaica Inn, The King's General, and above all Rebecca. So The House on The Strand will be the more welcome because it is set in the corner of the country where she has lived for twenty-five years.
